Lake City Polar Plunge

The Lake City Polar Plunge takes place on Jan. 17, 2015. Registration starts at 1:00 pm at the Town Pump Saloon. Parade of Costumes at 2:00 pm with plunge following. The After Splash Bash will take place immediately following the last plunger. Michigan is having 29 Polar Plunges in 2015. Polar Plunges are a Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) event. LETR is one of the largest grassroots fundraisers for Special Olympics globally. LETR consists of officers from both Law Enforcement and Corrections who raise funds and create awareness for Special Olympics Michigan year round. By participating in a Polar Plunge around the state you are helping to raise funds for nearly 21,000 athletes who participate in Special Olympics Michigan. Special Olympics Michigan is a year round program offering sports for those with intellectual disabilities. Although sports is the "vehicle," the ultimate goal of Special Olympics is to help persons with intellectual disabilities participate and receive respect as members of their communities.

Winter Bowling Championships

Each January, the Special Olympics Virginia bowlers from across the state meet in Northern Virginia to go for the gold at our Winter Bowling Championships. Bowlers, coaches, family, and friends are also invited to attend FanQuest on Saturday night at Robinson Secondary School to watch local Special Olympics high school basketball teams go head to head, followed by a Victory Dance and Olympic Town. Registered Bowling Championships participants (athletes, coaches, and chaperones) will receive dinner at the high school.

2015 Provincial Winter Games Speed Skating Competition

Special Olympics Ontario is hosting our 2015 Provincial Winter Games from January 29 – Feb 1st, 2015 in North Bay, Ontario. We have a few spaces available in our Speed Skating Competition and would like to extend an invitation to your speed skating athletes to attend. Cost $50 per athlete which includes 3 nights of accommodation, all meals, opening and closing ceremonies, athlete’s victory dance and ground transportation once you arrive at the games. Teams are responsible for their own travel to and from the event. As this is a qualifying competition for National Games for us, we require all athletes to use regulation speed skates. What is Winter Games? Winter Games is one of 9 state sports competitions. It is the culminating competition for those participating in alpine skiing, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. Cheboygan Polar Plunge

The Cheboygan Polar Plunge will take place February 14th at Hoppies Tavern in Cheboygan. Registration starts at 11:00 a.m. The parade of costumes will takes place at 12:30 p.m with the Plunge starting at 1:00 p.m. The awards and After Splash Bash will start immediately following the Plunge. Michigan is having 29 Polar Plunges in 2015. Polar Plunges are a Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) event. LETR is one of the largest grassroots fundraisers for Special Olympics globally. LETR consists of officers from both Law Enforcement and Corrections who raise funds and create awareness for Special Olympics Michigan year round. By participating in a Polar Plunge around the state you are helping to raise funds for nearly 21,000 athletes who participate in Special Olympics Michigan. Special Olympics Michigan is a year round program offering sports for those with intellectual disabilities. Although sports is the "vehicle," the ultimate goal of Special Olympics is to help persons with intellectual disabilities participate and receive respect as members of their communities.

Skating Championships

What is the Skating Championships? The Skating Championships are one of 9 state sports competitions. It is the culminating competition for those participating in figure skating and speed skating. The Skating Championships are hosted at Canlan Ice Sports in Romeoville, Illinois. Special Olympics Illinois will be holding this event in a new venue this year with the goal of increasing participation. Canlan Ice Sports is an amazing facility and will hopefully be more accessible and less costly for agencies and families attending the event.

2015 Special Olympics British Columbia Winter Games

Set be held in Kamloops February 19 to 21, the 2015 Special Olympics British Columbia Winter Games will feature 600 athletes from around the province going for gold in alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, curling, figure skating, floor hockey, snowshoeing, and speed skating. SOBC athletes province-wide competed in Regional Qualifiers in 2014 to earn coveted spots in the 2015 Provincial Games. In Kamloops, athletes will compete for the chance to advance to the 2016 Special Olympics Canada Winter Games in Corner Brook, Newfoundland, where the participants will seek to qualify for the 2017 Special Olympics World Winter Games in Austria. The curling, figure skating, and speed skating events will be hosted at McArthur Island Sports and Events Centre, and floor hockey events will be held in School District #73 schools. The alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing events will be hosted at Sun Peaks Resort. The Games will kick off with the Opening Ceremony on the evening of February 19 at the Tournament Capital Centre, where all the teams will get to march in proudly and be welcomed to Kamloops. International Bocce Competition

You are invited to attend the 2015 International Invitational Bocce Competition to be held April 30 - May 2, 2015. The competition will be hosted on the beautiful campus of Seneca College, King Campus located just 30 minutes north of Toronto Ontario Canada. The event will include opening and closing ceremonies, sightseeing opportunities, formal medal presentations, an athlete’s dance as well, all teams are guaranteed a minimum of four games over two days of competition. Registration fees for this event are $75 per athlete. Registration fees include the following: Three nights of accommodation; Meals on four days (breakfast, lunch and dinner); Snacks and refreshments; Transportation to and from the airport (as needed); 4 games of bocce (minimum); Medals for all athletes; Victory Dance. Teams choosing to arrive before April 30th will be required to pay an additional $25 per athlete which will include: Sightseeing opportunities; Accommodation for a maximum of two additional nights; Meals for a maximum of two additional days. All teams are responsible for their own travel expenses to and from the competition. Travel subsidy may be available for international teams. All athletes and coaches must be registered and members in good standing with their respective Special Olympics chapters/organizations. Due to our space limitations, we are unable to offer a Unified Event.

2015 Special Olympics Nevada Summer Games

Four hundred athletes and their volunteer coaches will come together at the University of Nevada, Reno to experience the thrill of competing against other athletes from all over Nevada. After weeks of training and participating at a qualifying competition, athletes will compete in aquatics or track & field in state-of-the-art collegiate athletic facilities on the UNR campus. Over 500 volunteers were on hand to fill a variety of volunteer positions over the course of the weekend. Summer Games is the culminating Championship for aquatics and track & field and is one of the largest Special Olympics sporting competitions in Nevada. The minimum age of the competitors is 8 years of age and there is no age limit cap. Spectators are welcome and admission is free.

Illinois Summer Games

Summer Games is Special Olympics Illinois premiere sports competition with more than 4,000 athletes and Unified Partners competing in 6 different sports, along with 1,600 coaches, 2,500 volunteers and 3,300 family members. That totals more than 11,400 people who attend Summer Games! The Summer Games are held at Illinois State University in Normal and the Illinois Wesleyan University campus in Bloomington. A variety of activities are provided for the participants in addition to the sports competitions. Competition will be offered in athletics, aquatics, bocce, Unified bocce, gymnastics, football (soccer) and powerlifting. The public is invited and encouraged to attend any and all parts of Special Olympics Illinois Summer Games. Hope to see you there!

Virgina State Summer Games

Summer Games, our largest State Games, is nothing short of legendary thanks to the overwhelming support of more than 3,000 local volunteers who brave the summer heat to assist more than 1,300 Special Olympics Virginia athletes each June. Athletes come from all corners of the state to compete in bocce, swimming, softball, track & field, bowling, powerlifting, and tennis at the University of Richmond and surrounding venues in Richmond. We are fortunate to have all of our Event Volunteer needs assigned for this year's Summer Games. We are currently recruiting Volunteer to Cheer fans and Medical Team members!

World Summer Games Los Angeles 2015

In July of 2015 more than 7,000 athletes from 170 countries will come to Los Angeles, California for the Special Olympics World Summer Games and enjoy 10 days full of joy, friendship and competition. Athletes will compete in 22 sports. The event expects to attract 500,000 spectators and 30,000 volunteers and 3,000 coaches.
