DHL is the Global Partner of the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics for the 2007 and 2009 Special Olympics World Games

In 2007, DHL and Special Olympics formed a partnership that has enabled the Law Enforcement Torch Run® for Special Olympics to travel for the first time ever to cities all over the world en route to the World Games.

DHL, as a Global Partner of the Law Enforcement Torch Run for the 2007 Special Olympics World Summer Games, made it possible to transport the Flame of Hope from its traditional lighting location in Athens, Greece, through key international cities worldwide, visiting five continents before its final stop at the Opening Ceremonies of the World Summer Games in Shanghai, China. The inaugural Global Torch Run included Cairo, Egypt; London, England; Washington, D.C.; Seoul, Korea; Tokyo, Japan; Sydney, Australia; Beijing, China; Hong Kong and Macau.

DHL enhanced its support of the Global Law Enforcement Torch Run through additional activation opportunities, including a television commercial, "Acceptance," which raised awareness of the partnership as well as the 2007 World Summer Games; a viral Torch Run campaign where a special mini-Web site was created by DHL for its customers to provide highlights of the Global Torch Run as well as the opportunity to create their own; DHL-branded uniforms for Global Torch Runners; and a festive box for consumers showcasing the artwork of Special Olympics athletes.

DHL additionally partnered with the National Geographic Channel to produce vignettes that showed behind the scenes of the Global Torch Run as well as DHL's involvement in the transportation of the Flame of Hope.

DHL is once again serving as a Global Partner of the Law Enforcement Torch Run leading up to the 2009 World Winter Games in Boise, Idaho (USA). With DHL's support, the Flame of Hope will be transported from Athens, Greece, to United Arab Emirates, Poland, Costa Rica, South Africa, India, China and back to the United States before embarking on the Final Leg in Idaho leading to the Opening Ceremony of the 2009 World Games.

DHL continues to raise awareness of its partnership with Special Olympics through additional activation around the Global Torch Run by re-launching the DHL Torch Run micro-site as well as the "Acceptance" commercial.
