Yao Ming Cheers for SO Chinese Taipei!

SOCT 20th Anniversary 2

Oct. 28 2012——Special Olympics Global Ambassador and Board Member Yao Ming attended SO Chinese Taipei 20th Anniversary  celebrations and kicked off Special Olympics East Asia Summer Sports Invitational Competition. Yao Ming  has been Special Olympics Global Ambassador ever since 2004 and was newly elected as the Board Member of Special Olympics International. Special Olympics East Asia Regional President & Managing Director Mary Gu, Special Olympics Chinese Taipei President Mr. Bai Xiuxiong ,Special Olympics Global Messenger Mr. Chen Weijie also joined in the SOCT 20th anniversary press conference together with Yao Ming in the morning, followed with a series activities include Family Forum, Youth Summit, Healthy Athletes® Program and Law Enforcement Torch Run® in the afternoon. A successful opening ceremony for the Competition brought that day to an end.

Special Olympics Chinese Taipei was founded in 1992 and has achieved the fastest growth of athlete number among East Asia regional programs. Per the 2011 census, SO Chinese Taipei already has 26228 registered athletes, 1069 coaches, 19 local offices and hosts 28 competitions every year.

This year’s Regional Summer Sports Invitational Competition covers 5 sportsincluding swimming, track & field, bocce, badminton and table tennis. Special Olympics athletes from Hong Kong, Macau, Korea, Malaysia and Chinese Taipei have participated in and enjoyed happiness from the 2-day competition.
