Following on from the hugely successful 2011 Paris to Nice cycle challenge, when 23 cyclists raised over €242,000 for Special Olympics Ireland, Special Olympics Europe/Eurasia and Cerebral Palsy Sport Ireland, training is well underway for the 2012 cycle.
2012 Paris2Nice Cycle Challenge
Starting on Saturday 29th September 2012, cyclists of all cycling levels will spend 6 days cycling from Paris to Nice.
We have over 60 riders signed up to participate and the riders are training non-stop and fundraising hard. Leanne Peters who rode for the Special Olympics Great Britain team at the World Games in Athens is busy training with her coach Tom Ahara. Leanne has never cycled a distance like this before and she is really excited about the challenge and meeting up with her fellow riders.
We are also looking at ways to expand Paris2Nice to include as many programmes in the Europe Eurasia region as possible and how it can raise money for national programmes. If you have any ideas about the cycle please contact Colin Kenny: [email protected]
Cyclists will take on the challenging route from Paris to Nice, which takes in some of the most spectacular sights of France along the way. Covering over 700kms – 115 kms per day on average – in 6 days, this challenge is not a race but a journey undertaken by a group of people of all ages, all backgrounds and all levels of cycling.
For more advanced cyclists there will be the opportunity to test stamina over more challenging terrain along the route including the legendary Mont Ventoux climb. This truly is a cycle for everyone with the common goal of raising as much money as possible for three worthy charities.
