Basketball Legend signs up with Special Olympics France

New French Ambassador

Special Olympics France have signed up French Basketball legend Hugues Occansey as their new Basketball Ambassador.

Occansey played 83 times for the men's French national basketball team between 1985 and 1995 and was the 7th leading scorer in the history of the men's Professional basketball league in France.

Occansey will work with coaches and volunteers from Special Olympics France on providing more opportunities for children and adults with intellectual disabilities to play basketball and on helping to develop their basketball skills on court through clinics and training.

European Basketball Week

The announcement was made during Special Olympics European Basketball Week which saw teams SIG Strasbourg Vs Bamberg and JSF Nanterre Vs Partizan Belgrade dedicate their matches to Special Olympics athletes in ceremonies on court before and after the games in Strasbourg and Nanterre in front of packed out stadiums. More than 20 Special Olympics athletes and their families and coaches took part as they got to meet their basketball heroes and shoot some baskets.
