My name is Sixto Morales, I am an Athlete of SO Venezuela and I also serve as Chairman of the Athletes advisory board.
I´ve been involved in Special Olympics since 1995 and represented Venezuela as a tennis player in several competitions in Connecticut, Brazil, Mexico.
On behalf of my colleagues I want to thank our advisor, Professor Moraima Nuñez and all the people that support us. Today I want to tell the world that people with intellectual disabilities are ready to defend their spaces and rights.
In our movement we have leadership programs that allows us to occupy different roles, such as: Coaches, Executive Committee Members, spokespersons and so on. SO athletes are influencers and leaders that contribute to the spreading of our values and messages and set the direction of our movement.
Special Olympics teaches us leadership not only in sports, it also help us in school, work and many other aspects.
Thanks to all who have trusted in our ability and have supported us in our personal development. We returned from the Special Olympics Word Summer Games, Athens 2011 with 44 gold medals, 38 silver and 32 of Bonze.
