Mauritania in Global and Regional Events

In his interview with the Mauritanian Sports News Agency, National Director of SO Mauritania Mr. Eyde Ould Sidi Mohamed said although the Mauritanian program was founded in 1999, it participated in the same year in the World Games in North Carolina, USA, harvesting two medals.

Ever since, according to Ould Sidi Mohamed, the program has been seeking to participate in all of the Special Olympics’ global and regional sports events.

Over SO Mauritania’s participation in the 2011 Special Olympics World Summer Games in Athens, Ould Sidi Mohamed said despite the inconveniences that the Mauritanian delegation faced causing its late arrival, the football team outdid itself winning the gold medal, topping very strong teams in its group.

A celebration was held at the end of the Games in which all the Mauritanian SO medalists in the Athens Games were honored.
