The State Summer Games presented by SpartanNash take place June 2-4, 2016 on the campus of Central Michigan University in Mt. Pleasant. The State Summer Games is the largest Special Olympics Michigan event with 2,600 SOMI athletes along with an additional 3,400 coaches, volunteers, chaperones, family members and spectators attending each year. Ten types of competition are offered at the State Summer Games each year, including aquatics, athletics, bocce, bowling, gymnastics, horseshoes, power lifting, weightlifting, volleyball, developmental athletics and motor activities training program. Athletes compete in State Summer Games after qualifying at local competitions throughout the year. The State Summer Games is one of six annual statewide competitions for the athletes of Special Olympics Michigan. The Special Olympics Michigan programs are offered at no cost to the athletes or their families. The State Summer Games are proudly presented by SpartanNash, the only Statewide Premier Gold Medal Sponsor of Special Olympics Michigan.

The following screenings will be offered at Summer Games: Healthy Hearing, Opening Eyes, and Health Promotions. The screenings are offered at no cost to all Special Olympics athletes with a current physical on file with Special Olympics Kansas. The screenings are conducted by Clinical Directors who have been trained by Special Olympics, Inc. When health issues are identified the results of the screenings are sent to parents/guardians or the adult athlete. Approximately 230 athletes will take part in the screenings.

The LETR Carson City 5k Run/Walk will take place June 3rd at Carson City High School. Registration starts at 6:00 p.m. with the race starting at 6:45 p.m. Fee is $20 to participate which includes a t-shirt. Age groups are: 10-19, 20-19, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60+. Medals will be awarded for 1st and 2nd in each age group.

Join us as 1,500 athletes from 60 teams participate in a weekend-long event at the University of Rhode Island in Kingston, Rhode Island. Sports offered include: Aquatics, Athletics, Bowling, Cycling, Motor Activities Training Program, Powerlifting and Soccer. Even though some competitions begin Friday, June 3rd during the day, Opening Ceremonies will be held that evening at 7:30pm.

Garden of Life presents its inaugural 5K race on June 4th: the Garden of Life Sun Run 5K Challenge, a race for runners and walkers of all ages, at PGA National in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. The race features a 5K (3.1 mile) scenic route along the famous Champion Course, home of the PGA Tour’s The Honda Classic. Along with the race, the Sun Run is a community event for all ages! The event features local organic farmers with fresh produce, Garden of Life product samples, the Street Team from local radio station WRMF, a Diaper Derby for all of our young athletes, and more! Did we mention that all participants will be entered to win a brand new Honda Fit car? And the prize for the top male and female finisher is $2,500 in cash each?! Join us!
