Special Olympics is the world’s largest movement dedicated to promoting respect, acceptance and inclusion of people with intellectual disabilities through the power of sport and showed a national television audience of millions how they can support Special Olympics worldwide mission.

This incredible moment happened thanks to longtime Special Olympics corporate partner Procter & Gamble, which has sponsored Special Olympics for more than 30 years. Vanessa Williams explained how supporters can donate money via text message to raise funds for the team of athletes with intellectual disabilities representing the United States in the 2011 Special Olympics World Summer Games in Athens, Greece.  (Learn more about Team USA and the upcoming Athens Games).

Viewers were told they can help change the lives and communities for thousands of amazing athletes with intellectual disabilities. Special Olympics serves nearly 3.5 million athletes around the world, but with more than 200 million people around the world with intellectual disabilities, there are still many more who can benefit.

Procter & Gamble believes in the power of Special Olympics to change lives. The company will be celebrating the amazing achievements of Special Olympics athletes and their moms this Spring in their “proud sponsor of moms” campaign, which is a testament to the power of what Special Olympics is capable of and viewers will see on the People’s Choice Awards.
