EKS Newsletter: Eunice Kennedy Shriver Act Introduced
جمادى الثانية 03, 1431
We are thrilled to share with you a significant step forward in our efforts to move the 2010 Eunice Kennedy Shriver Act through the U.S. Congress.
On April 29th, both chambers of the U.S. Congress filed identical versions of the bill. While this is simply one more step in a lengthy process to make this bill law, we are encouraged by this sign of support for our movement.
The bill has the backing of both Democrats and Republicans, and we are grateful to House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-MD), Congressman Vernon J. Ehlers (R-MI), Senators Tom Harkin (D-IA), Christopher Dodd (D-CT), Orrin Hatch (R-UT) , Barbara Mikulski (D-MD), James Risch (R-ID), Susan Collins (R- ME), Al Franken (D-MN), Mike Johanns (R-NE), Harry Reid (D-NV), Olympia Snowe (R-ME), and Robert Casey (D-PA) and Congressmen Peter King (R-NY), Patrick Kennedy (D-RI) for their work on the bill to date. Read the press statement issued by these lawmakers on the bill.
But, there is still significant work to be done before we declare victory. We ask you to contact your U.S. representatives in the House and Senate and URGE them to support the Eunice Kennedy Shriver Act. Also, share this message with your colleagues, supporters of your Program, friends, and family, and let them know how important this legislation is to our movement. We all know what Special Olympics can accomplish when we take action and work together to make the world a better place for our athletes. Few things are more important to that goal than passage of this bill!!
