My Special Olympics and Lion's Club 10-Pin Bowling Experience

By Amber Manchest

Bowling was really fun for me and it was my first time. It was really exciting and the Special Olympics South Africa coaches were really nice.View Story Bowling was really fun for me and it was my first time. It was really exciting and the Special Olympics South Africa coaches were really nice. It was also fun at some stages where some of us made some silly mistakes with the ball. I would like to do ten-pin bowling again if I get the opportunity. I enjoyed myself thoroughly. Thanking you. .

The summit took place from the 29th -30th of November 2013 at the Hodygos Conference Centre, just outside Windhoek. A total of 50 youth attended and were supervised by staff members and volunteers. The excited group got to camp overnight and engaged in a number of team building activities. The Special Olympics motto of Play Unified, Live Unified was intrinsic to the messaging for the summit and the youth were encouraged to become ambassadors for Special Olympics and to help spread the messaging of inclusion amongst their peers. As the summit fell so close to the 1st of December, International Aids Day, the youth participated in an art session to create posters encouraging prevention and promoting acceptance and inclusion of people with Aids.

Camp Shriver, A Unified Camp in South Africa

By Nyeleti Shilenge

Playing and interacting with people with Intellectual Disabilities was very nice and challenging. I enjoyed every moment and learnt a lot from them.View Story I have never felt so welcomed within such a big group. The camp is the best I ever attended, thank you for inviting us. Playing and interacting with people with Intellectual Disabilities was very nice and challenging. I enjoyed every moment and learnt a lot from them. With such events I am hoping people within our community will stop hiding their kids and bring them out to such occasions, this is because people think they should not be part of such.

By Karl Hejlik
