Every year UEFA host a four day festival celebrating the best of the beautiful game of soccer. And each year this event includes a 5-a-side tournament between Special Olympics footballers. The purpose is to demonstrate to the European football communities the skills and capabilities of athletes with intelletual disabilities. The 2016 event will take place in the stunning setting of the courtyard of the Castello Sforzesco in Rome, Italy. On May 26th, 30 athletes will play on a 5-a-side astro turf pitch set up there.
This free four day event includes entertainment, music and football themed events. There will be photo exhibition of the best football photography from across the region. It will include images from Special Olympics events.

The State Summer Games presented by SpartanNash take place June 2-4, 2016 on the campus of Central Michigan University in Mt. Pleasant. The State Summer Games is the largest Special Olympics Michigan event with 2,600 SOMI athletes along with an additional 3,400 coaches, volunteers, chaperones, family members and spectators attending each year. Ten types of competition are offered at the State Summer Games each year, including aquatics, athletics, bocce, bowling, gymnastics, horseshoes, power lifting, weightlifting, volleyball, developmental athletics and motor activities training program. Athletes compete in State Summer Games after qualifying at local competitions throughout the year. The State Summer Games is one of six annual statewide competitions for the athletes of Special Olympics Michigan. The Special Olympics Michigan programs are offered at no cost to the athletes or their families. The following screenings will be offered at Summer Games: Healthy Hearing, Opening Eyes, and Health Promotions. The screenings are offered at no cost to all Special Olympics athletes with a current physical on file with Special Olympics Kansas. The screenings are conducted by Clinical Directors who have been trained by Special Olympics, Inc. When health issues are identified the results of the screenings are sent to parents/guardians or the adult athlete. Approximately 230 athletes will take part in the screenings.

The LETR Carson City 5k Run/Walk will take place June 3rd at Carson City High School. The third Special Olympics Ukraine Open Games will involved two days of competitions in nine sports including: Swimming, 5-a-side Football, Floorball, Table Tennis, Unified Basketball, Bocce, Kayaking, and Open Water Swimming. Delegations from across Ukraine as well as other European countries will compete in the Games taking place in the UNESCO Heritage city of Lviv, in central Ukraine.

At the Healthy Athletes event at the Fall Sports Classic, the following disciplines will be offered: Opening Eyes, Special Smiles, Healthy Hearing, and Health Promotions. These screenings will be offered free to all athletes who have a current physical on file at Special Olympics Kansas. Screening forms are sent to guardians if health issues are identified so a follow-up with their health care professional may be made. Each discipline has a Clinical Director who recruits volunteers to assist with the screening.
More than 1,200 athletes, coaches and chaperones from 46 counties take part in the State Poly Hockey & Unified Bowling Finals each year. Poly Hockey takes place at Eastern High School and Fieldhouse in Lansing on November 12-13. The Unified Bowling Finals take place on November 12 at Royal Scot Lanes.
Backed by FIBA Europe and Euroleague Basketball, the aim of Special Olympics European Basketball Week is to expand opportunities across Europe for adults and children with intellectual disabilities.

Competition includes Alpine Skiing, Cross Country Skiing and Snowboarding at Schuss Mountain at Shanty Creek Resort in Bellaire; Speed Skating and Figure Skating at Howe Ice Arena in Traverse City; and Snowshoeing at Grand Traverse Resort and Spa in Acme.
