Mary Gu Shuhang was appointed as Regional President & Managing Director of Special Olympics International, East Asia in 2011. Prior to this, she held a number of key positions in multinational companies and organizations.

From 2008 to 2010, Ms. Gu was president of the 2010 World Expo Shanghai Corporate Pavilion, a pavilion representing a consortium of state owned enterprises in Shanghai during the World Expo in 2010. The pavilion received 2.3 million visitors during the Expo and received a number of international awards in creative content and multimedia experience.

From 2004 to 2007, Ms. Gu was appointed by the City of Shanghai as Vice President, 2007 Special Olympics World Summer Games Executive Committee, Director of Public Relations and Deputy Director of Large Scale Events for 2007 Special Olympics World Games Steering Committee, president of 2007 Special Olympics World Summer Games Opening Ceremony production service company.

During this assignment, she led two teams to successfully raise funds for the games and produced the games' opening ceremony. For the first time in Special Olympics' history, the opening ceremony was broadcasted live on five channels on China Central Television and various international TV networks.

In 2005, Mary Gu brought a group of investors together and founded the company Shanghai Golden Grand Prix Co. Ltd. who manages IAAF's top ranking competition which later became Diamond League Shanghai. The event has become China's trademark sports event over the years.

Ms. Gu previously held senior positions in luxury hotel brands including Ritz-Carlton and Shangri-La.

Mary Gu was awarded with the most successful Public Relations case for her work on 2007 Special Olympics World Summer Games by Shanghai Public Relations Association.

In 2008, she was named as one of the 20 iconic Chinese women by French life style magazine ELLE.
