European Skiers Preapre for Korea 2013

More than 85 Special Olympics skiers and coaches from eight European countries took part in an SOEE Alpine Skiing Camp in Murau, Austria from December 3rd to 9th in preparation for the 2012 Skiing season and the 2013 Special Olympics World Winter Games in Korea.

Countries included: Austria, Monaco,  Germany,  Greece,  Romania,  Croatia,  Finland and  Slovakia. Significantly more than half of the participants were complete beginners to skiing meaning that Special Olympics Europe/Eurasia (SOEE) now has at least 30 new Alpine Ski athletes as well as 20 newly well trained coaches. The event was a great success even though it has been a mild beginning to winter in the Austrian Alps.

The Camp was lead by Professor Heinz Pentanje, SOEE Alpine Skiing Advisor together with Rolf Balanke and a group of German Ski instructors from Halle University who achieved fantastic achievements with the athletes who all participated in Alpine Slalom Skiing competitions at the end of the course. All  of  the participants  were instructed in the very successful "Free Motion" method (skiing  taught with short skis) invented and conducted by Professor Heinz Petanjek.

Recognition went to Marc Angelin of Special Olympics Austria and all his team who took care of all logistics including free of charge bus transportation from Vienna airport to Murau for three of the international teams.
