Special Olympics Swimmers at 2011 European Swimming Championship

Thanks to our partnership with the European Swimming Federation (LEN), all eyes were on Special Olympics swimmers during the recent European Swimming Championships which took place in Szczecin, Poland on December 11, 2011.

16 swimmers from Special Olympics Poland took part in two 25 meter races (backstroke girls and free-style boys) just 15 minutes ahead of the final races of the European Short Course Swimming Championships. The athletes has trained hard with their coaches in the weeks before this opportunity.

In 2005, LEN signed a partnership agreement with Special Olympics Europe/Eurasia with the pledge to promote Special Olympics at professional competitions and high level events which often include celebrity participation and wide TV coverage. LEN's dedicate and passion for Special Olympics continues strong an most recently Mr Nory Kruchten, President of LEN attended the SOEE Sports Conference in Malta in October 2011. Special recognition must go to Mr Laszlo Szakadati, LEN General Director who tireless efforts ensure that the Special Olympics athletes enjoyed the opportunity to show case their skills at the European Swimming Championship.

SOEE and LEN look forward to athletes having a similar platform at the upcoming Antwerp 2012 European Championships with the view of raising awareness for the 2014 Special Olympics European Games.
