Partnership with European Bocce Federation

February 15, 2012

Special Olympics and European Bocce Federation meet to finalise partnership agreement

February 15th 2012, Milan, Italy - The sport of Bocce is growing across Europe and Central Asia with more than 13,000 Special Olympics athletes now playing it.  The 2011 Special Olympics World Summer Games in Athens brought Bocce players together from across 33 national programmes to compete.  In contrast the 1999 World Summer Games saw only 5 programmes taking part in Bocce – a fact which clearly shows how the level of participation and interest in Bocce is growing significantly.

To build on this success and to develop the sport even further among Special Olympics programmes across Europe and Eurasia an inaugural meeting has taken place between the European Bocce Federation and Special Olympics.  The focus of this meeting was to finalise details of a Partnership Agreement between both organisations which will see the existing links strengthened.  It is expected this Partnership Agreement will be officially signed late this year during a leading European Bocce Seminar in Cremona, Italy.

The meeting between the President of the European Bocce Federation, Mr. Bruno Casarini and Mr. Mariusz Damentko and Mr. Roy Savage of Special Olympics Europe/Eurasia took place at the headquarters of the EBF in Milan.

Already the link between the two organisations involves unified demonstration matches with Special Olympics players during the European Bocce Championships in Italy.  SOEE is looking forward to a long and fruitful partnership with the EBF so that the sport of Bocce develops throughout the region among Special Olympics athletes, coaches, families and fans.
