Athletes raise SO Flag before kick-off of first game in Poland's New Stadium

Special Olympics athletes took centre field in front of 58,000 spectators and over 8.5 million television viewers

Four Special Olympics athletes were given the opportunity of a lifetime by being part of a truly historic event at the opening of the new National Stadium in Warsaw 100 days before UEFA EURO 2012 gets underway.

The athletes received a standing ovation as they walked out onto the pitch carrying the Special Olympics flag as part of a special ceremony just before kick-off in the game between Poland and Portugal to mark the opening of the new stadium in Warsaw.

The stadium was packed to capacity with 58,000 spectators and a staggering 8.5 million people watched on TV. The match finished with a nil-all draw !
