75 Special Olympics footballers learn new skills from some of the best players and coaches in the world

Special Olympics footballers from six teams including the ‘Deventer’ club, had the day of their lives recently with players and coaches from league titleholders AFC AJAX.
AJAX players, coaches and their sponsors AEGON organized an all-day football clinic for Special Olympics footballers. After the clinic the Special Olympics players were given front row seats at the Amsterdam Arena to watch AJAX beat Heracles 6-0.
‘Deventer' was one of six teams to be invited to the clinic. A total of 75 footballers with an intellectual and physical disability were invited to the clinic and to the AJAX match afterwards. One lucky team even got the chance to take part in a penalty shoot-out at half time in front of a packed stadium.
Coordinator of the Deventer sport team Ina Zweers-Rietman said: “This was an extraordinary event for our players and one we will all remember for a long time. Our compliments and thanks go to the AJAX players and coaches who gave of their skill, expertise and time so freely.’
Each player was sent home with an AJAX scarf and Adidas training shirts all compliments of AEGON – sponsors of AFC AJAX and Special Olympics the Netherlands.
