On 15 April 2012, 36 runners from CMS Cameron Mc Kenna offices across Central and Eastern Europe dusted off their trainers to compete in the Vienna City Marathon relay in support of their charity partner, Special Olympics.
In teams of four the CMS crew collectively ran the full 42.2km in legs of 16km, 5km, 9km and 11km.
Preparations started months in advance (and not just on the treadmill!), with five of the teams comprised of members from London, Austria, Moscow, Bucharest, Prague, and Budapest.
The teams began their fundraising in earnest, with ideas for fundraising varying across the board. The teams baked, bagged penny sweets, carted fruit salads around the office, sold easter chocolates, and even turned their hands to karaoke in an effort to raise as much money for Special Olympics as possible.
For the teams in Moscow, they had to deal with severe weather conditions throughout their training, with temperatures in Moscow regularly below freezing. Special mention must go out to Anna Malanova from Moscow, and Chris Trim from London. Anna ran the half marathon and Chris ran the full marathon, both incredible efforts.
In the end, a great day was had by all with Louis De-Ste-Croix, Ewa Stykowska, Joe Campbell and Pawel Stykowski from Prague and Warsaw completing the race fastest in 3 hours 28 mins 7 seconds! Between the five teams we raised 4,766 EUR for Special Olympics. Donations continue to come in and they look forward to running in the event next year in aid of Special Olympics.
CMS is the region’s leading provider of legal and tax services and they chose Special Olympics as their charity partner in November 2011.
On behalf of our 500,000 athletes across Europe Eurasia, we thank you CMS!
