SO Advisory Council Meetings & Elections in Doha

The Qatari capital of Doha hosted the meetings and elections of the Special Olympics Advisory Council that were held from May 3 – 7, 2012.
The meeting reviewed SOMENA’s executive plan of activities for the year 2012
Opened by Regional President, Ayman Abdel Wahab of SOMENA, and Sheikh Saud Bin Abdul Rahman Al Thani, Secretary General of the Qatari Olympic Committee, the meeting was attended by delegations of 19 states.
The meeting reviewed SOMENA’s executive plan of activities for the year 2012, the SOMENA Eighth Regional Games 2014, accreditation, fees, grants, and athlete census in 2011. The meeting also discussed a number of prominent issues like marketing, partnership development and fundraising.
On another note, a joint session was held with members of the SO Family Conference which was held aside the productive meeting. During the meeting, Regional President , Ayman Abdel Wahab said the region was expecting to obtain the rules regulations of the World Cup – Rio 2013 event, which will be held in the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro at the same venues that will host the upcoming 2014 World Cup tournament.

The meeting was fruitful and yielded a number of recommendations such as, the organization of an Information Systems course in Beirut, a media training course from September 26-29 in Libya plus addressing invitations to media figures in all the states of the region to attend the course.
Also on the agenda, the SOMENA Regional Advisory Council’s elections were concluded resulting in a win for each of: Mohammad Fadel Al Hameli (UAE), as a member of the International Advisory Committee, and Dr. Nasser Abdul Aziz Saleh (KSA), as Chairman of the Council. As for membership of the council, it was won by Dr. Hassan Al Anssary (Qatar), Salah El Deen Al Samaar (Morocco), Tawfik Al Sherif (Tunis), Khaled Al Reqeiby (Libya), Dr. Ali Al-Shawahin (Jordan), Saad Bin Yassin (Iraq), Mohammad Najdat (Syria), HH Prince Faisal Bin Turky (Oman), Eng. Hany Mahmoud (Egypt), Amir Al Mulla (Qatar), Ibrahim Al Suwaih (KSA) and Fadel Al Mansoury (UAE).
