UNICEF and Special Olympics Azerbaijan sign agreement

Signing
UNICEF and Special Olympics Azerbaijan signed a memorandum of understanding in creating opportunities for children with disabilities and helping to develop their full potential through sports.
On 18 May 2012 at a signing ceremony held at the press center of the Trend international news agency in Baku, Mark Hereward, UNICEF Azerbaijan Representative, said the agreement between the two organizations would serve to create an inclusive environment, bringing children with intellectual disabilities and their non-disabled peers together.
Special Olympics teams from Ganja and Goychay region that participated in the 2012 Special Olympics European Football Week received support from UNICEF. Transforming Lives through Sport
“Working at a local level, Special Olympics Azerbaijan make significant achievements across the country, in helping people transform their lives through sport” Hereward said. “On a personal level, I love to see the joy of all athletes participating in a Special Olympics event.”
Special Olympics Azerbaijan President Shahin Aliyev noted that the organization has been working with UNICEF since 2007, mainly on regional development of opportunities for children with intellectual disabilities.
