Carry the White Flame…Make the difference
Within the framework of cooperation with SOMENA, Procter & Gamble (P&G) invited all residents in Dubai to partake in the relay White Torch Run through the streets of Dubai.
The event aimed to raise public awareness in the cause of athletes with intellectual disabilities
Events of the like, have always been created by Procter & Gamble in what could be described as actions aimed at boosting public awareness in the cause of athletes with intellectual disabilities.

Launched from the Procter & Gamble premises in Jebel Ali, the White Torch Run was carried out in phases, each of which used a different means of transportation, including: walking, taxis, bicycles, metros, cars and other types of vehicles. The run lasted for 24 hours nonstop in a challenging attempt to cover the whole distance in time, and show the community’s support and acceptance of individuals with intellectual disabilities.
It was a memorial moment when the White Torch Run reached the final station at the Promenade Festival where the final celebration was held.
Commending the event, Regional President Ayman Abdel Wahab of SOMENA gave much concern to the importance of all social sectors to closely work together to provide SOMENA with the needed support.

“Such support will be encouraging to everybody including athletes with intellectual disabilities and participants who would carry the torch throughout this significant tour. Just one person can make a positive change in the lives of our athletes,” Abdel Wahab said.
On her part, P&G Branding Manager Lara Abi Zaid said the event served as a significant move aimed at unifying the contributions made by various sectors of the Dubai society to support SOMENA. In the same context, Abi Zaid highlighted SOMENA’s continuous efforts to provide athletes with intellectual disabilities with a rigid platform through which they could display their talents and skills. Abi Zaid also pointed out the achievements of SOMENA athletes in last year’s SO World Games stressing the importance of mobilizing all types of support they need in order to show an even better performance in the future. In this concern, P&G’s Branding Manager pointed out that the Torch Run was the minimum contribution to be made that would influence the athletes partaking in the Special Olympics, and have a great impact on their final outcome and accomplishments as well.
On another note, P&G also launched the ‘Make a Difference’ campaign which is aimed at helping SO athletes improve their health and physical standards by providing them with the health care services they need.
