It is with great sorrow and sadness that the SOMENA region mourns one of its finest leaders of all times. HRH Princess Lalla Amina, Chairwoman of Special Olympics Morocco and member of the SO International Advisory Committee passed away on August 16th 2012, as announced by the Moroccan government.

A Great Leader
President of the Moroccan League for Child Protection since 1975, HRH Lalla Amina studied philosophy and shared perfect fluency in French, English and Arabic.
Throughout her life, HRH dedicated herself to advocate children’s rights, working relentlessly on passing legislations and laws ensuring them.
In 1999, and after a long span of her life was spent in taking much interest in sports, especially equestrian, HRH chaired the Royal Moroccan Federation for Equestrian Sports, leading her country’s teams to remarkable achievements on all levels.
In its statement, Special Olympics expressed deep sorrow over the passing of HRH Lalla Amina describing it as "a great loss the international movement would have to suffer as an aftermath of losing one of its greatest supporters."
The statement also highlighted the two-term period during which HRH chaired the SOMENA Regional Advisory Council and her membership of the SO International Advisory Council as being one of the region’s most glorious times.
Pointing out HRH’s office as a chairwoman of the SO Morocco during which the Moroccan program has made a vast leap sports wise reflected in holding numerous local and international events and in Morocco, the statement has also paid tribute to the remarkable royal figure’s earnest devotion to enhancing the performance of SO Morocco’s athletes which enabled them to offer their country substantial achievements at local, regional and international levels.
