Special Olympics Italy directors and co-ordinators gather to mark EKS Day.

On the 21-23 September, Special Olympics Italy celebrated Eunice Kennedy Shriver Day by hosting its annual meeting for all Special Olympics directors, technical coordinators and some regional representatives across Italy. A total of 80 people attended. The main topic for discussion was Special Olympics Italy’s strategic plan for the next four years as well as an introduction to our new brand identity guidelines and a special ceremony to commemorate our beloved founded Eunice Kennedy Shriver.

Special Olympics is also busy preparing to host the SOEE Football Conference in collaboration with UEFA which will take place in Rome from October 5 – 7. The conference will bring together football coordinators from across the Europe/Eurasia region working together to expand more opportunities for athletes to participate and transform their lives through football.

Long-time football partners UEFA will also attend and speak at the conference and participants will also enjoy contributions from members of the Italian Football Federation and the Turkish Football Federation. Visit here for more information on our football programme at Special Olympics.


Athletes cycle for EKS Day in Greece.

400 athletes participated in the EKS Day Special Olympics Sports Experience in co-operation with the Municipality of Ilioupolis. Athletes took part in Football, Basketball, Badminton, Bocce and Cycling.

Basketball was a huge draw on the day.

More than 1000 citizens of Ilioupolis, 250 volunteers, 120 family members, 45 Special Olympics Hellas Coaches, all members of the Municipal Council, Police officials, Special Olympics Hellas Board members and several SOWSG Athens 2011 staff members attended the event.


Special Olympics Ukraine celebrated EKS Day with a “Play Unified to Live Unified” event for young athletes in two cities Kyiv and Kirovograd. 20 new young athletes and 20 new family members took part.



These athletes will represent Special Olympics Cyprus at the European Bowling Tournament which will be held 21-26 October in the city of Paphos, Cyprus.

As part of the World Championship Bowling Special Olympics Cyprus athletes took part in a Bowling exhibition game dedicated to the memory Eunice Kennedy Shriver.

This event took place on Friday, September 21st, 2012 at Galactica Bowling in Limassol.
