Denis Doolan, Vice President, Movement Leadership and Integration
Denis Doolan
In his role as Vice President, Movement Leadership and
Integration, Denis provides guidance and support on the Movement
Leadership strategic initiatives outlined in the Special Olympics'
strategic plan, and coordinates the integration of Special
Olympics' planning and cross-functional work. Denis has been
involved in the Movement Leadership concept from the outset and
continues to work closely with the Regional teams to build a
culture of strong leadership and constant improvement among Special
Olympics' Programs around the world. Integration efforts are
focused on prioritizing work and driving collaboration between
Special Olympics' various headquarters and Regional teams to
support the effective implementation and tracking of the Special
Olympics strategic plan globally.
Prior to his current role Denis served as Director of Operations
for Special Olympics Europe/Eurasia in Dublin, Ireland, he was
subsequently appointed to Interim Regional President and Managing
Director for Special Olympics Europe Eurasia region during
2011.
Denis became affiliated with Special Olympics in his capacity as
Director of Venues for the 2003 Special Olympics World Summer Games
in Ireland. He subsequently worked on implementation of
a post-World Games legacy strategy with Special Olympics Ireland
before assisting Special Olympics Europe Eurasia with development
of a new strategy and annual plans across all sport and non-sport
activities across the region. His diverse background includes
delivering planning, project management and training/lecturing
services, mainly to sports and not-for-profit organizations.
His various clients have included Allianz, Compaq, Independent News
& Media, Football Association of Ireland, Rehab Group, 2006 and
2010 Winter Olympic Games, and Sydney 2000 Olympic and Paralympic
Games.
Denis received a Degree in Communication Studies from Dublin
City University and a Masters in Public Relations from the
University of Stirling. He also has an Advanced Diploma in
Training & Development from the Institute of Commercial
Management. He is a Special Olympics family member and
volunteer, and his other interests include reading, politics,
travel and sport.
