Mary Davis, President of Special Olympics Europe Eurasia is joined by Reinhard Schäler, CEO & Founder of The Rosetta Foundation and Special Olympics athlete Wayne Kenny to celebrate the launch of their joint partnership in 2010.

Words of Empowerment

Since the beginning of our partnership in 2010, The Rosetta Foundation’s translation and localisation community has removed major barriers to information access and resources for our Programs around the world.

In just two years The Rosetta Foundation has provided Special Olympics with free translation services to the value of 87,241. A total of 43 projects, translated from six different source languages into 27 target languages have been completed. Put more simply – that’s a staggering 581,608 words translated!

Projects have ranged from strategy and policy documents, healthcare guidelines, sports rules and coaching guides.

For Reinhard Schäler, CEO & Founder of The Rosetta Foundation, the partnership with Special Olympics has a huge significance for the organisation as it supplied the first ever project for The Rosetta Foundation. “Our partnership has experienced significant growth since our very humble beginnings to the level we are working at now. The community spirit behind the great work of Special Olympics is contagious and inspires many volunteer translators around the world to provide their skills and expertise to a great cause.”

Success with Special Olympics has spurred further growth for The Rosetta Foundation as the non-profit organisation has expanded significantly over the past two years.  Today it offers services to 37 not-for-profit organisations.  It has also launched its Social Localisation Initiative and employs two dedicated staff members at its headquarters in Dublin, Ireland.

“Working with The Rosetta Foundation has empowered our national programmes as never before,” says Mary Davis, President of Special Olympics Europe Eurasia. “They now have the information and resources available in their own language to help transform more lives in their communities through the joy of sport. Until our partnership, we had faced great challenges in supporting the development of programmes in more than 170 countries across multiple languages. One of the main reasons that our partnership works so well is because The Rosetta Foundation shares our values of inclusion and equality,” concludes Davis.
