100 Participants in Five Seminars

Special Olympics Montenegro has completed all five of the capacity-building seminars that were organized as part of the “Inclusion for All” project supported by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

Special Olympics Montenegro and Special Olympics Serbia are both involved in the project that aims advance the rights of persons with intellectual disabilities.

In Montenegro project seminars were held in Podgorica, Bar, Belje Polje, Niksic and Herzeg Novi in October and November 2012.  The seminars attracted approximately 100 participants including local government officials, special and mainstream school educators, family organization representatives, coaches and Special Olympics athletes.

One of the seminar activities was a workshop in which seminar participants designed a plan of action to support new youth Special Olympics Unified Sports® teams.

“During the first seminar workshop in Podgorica participants continued to discuss how they planned to support the Unified teams long after the session had officially ended,” said Mr. Dejan Pancic, Special Olympics Montenegro National Director and USAID project coordinator.  “Their interest and enthusiasm for the project has been repeated in all of the seminars,” he said.

In each of the project cities, two new youth Unified teams are currently being developed. Serbia has completed six of 12 seminars during the same period with six more to be completed in the first quarter of 2013.
