Special Olympics Global Youth Summit

Special Olympics believes that through sports, young people can make a difference in friendships, schools and communities. The Global Youth Activation Summit offers the opportunity for young people with and without intellectual disabilities from all regions of the world to develop as active agents of social change.

2013 Global Youth Activation Summit

The 2013 Special Olympics Global Youth Activation Summit will be held in conjunction with the 2013 Special Olympics World Winter Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea from 29 January to 5 February 2013.

The Summit is a gathering for almost 80 young people, with and without intellectual disabilities, from around the world who are committed to inclusion and acceptance in their schools and communities through Special Olympics.

During the summit, participants will attend youth-led leadership training programs and interactive sports experiences. The summit will also include a Global Youth Rally gathering a thousand young people from the Republic of Korea and around the world for an exciting, motivational, multi-media event to address key issues young people face regarding intellectual disabilities and society.


A Vision of Unity

The goal of the 2013 Global Youth Activation Summit is to conduct a ‘Dignity Revolution’ that gains the social acceptance of young people with intellectual disabilities into mainstream society through sports, friendship and unified youth-led advocacy.

This unique event provides a forum for youth participants to become educated, motivated and activated in becoming agents of change – fostering acceptance, respect and dignity for all people throughout the world.
