The sport of athletics encourages athletes of all abilities and ages to compete at their optimum level. Through the track-and-field-based athletics training program, participants can develop total fitness to compete in any sport. As with all Special Olympics sports, athletics offers athletes the opportunity to learn through skill development and competitive settings and to be involved in large social settings.

Soy Crsitian Iael y soy un campeón

Cristian con su medalla de los Juegos Nacionales 2014

He finished high school and entered a special occupational school where four years ago he was invited to participate in Special Olympics training activities playing basketball.View Story Cristian tiene 28 años, nació el 27 de julio de 1986 y vive con su familia en Cancún, Quintana Roo. Terminó la escuela secundaria e ingresó a una escuela laboral especial donde hace 4 años fue invitado a participar en actividades de entrenamiento de Olimpiadas Especiales, juega basquetbol porque le gusta mucho convivir con sus compañeros, pero su mejor desempeño es en atletismo, particularmente en las pruebas de fondo. En los pasados XV juegos nacionales de Olimpiadas Especiales México ganó una medalla de oro al competir en 400 m planos en rama varonil y participará en los juegos mundiales de verano de Special Olympics Los Angeles 2015.

Soy Eddy Flor y soy una campeona

She finished primary school in special education and entered the CAM occupational training course to learn a trade. Since 15 years she had been actively involved in Special Olympics.View Story Eddy Flor tiene 21 años, nació el 5 de octubre de 1992, vive con su familia junto a sus 3 hermanos. Ella nació y ha vivido siempre en Cancún, Q. Roo, terminó la primaría en una escuela de educación especial y curso en el CAM laboral para aprender un oficio. Desde los 15 años participa activamente en Olimpiadas Especiales, tanto en atletismo como en basquetbol. En atletismo tiene muy buen desempeño, tan es así que ya tuvo la oportunidad de formar parte de la selección mexicana en los Juegos Mundiales de Atenas 2011, obteniendo una medalla de plata en 200 m planos y una de bronce en 100 m planos. En los pasados juegos nacionales de Oaxtepec, Morelos, nos mostró su tenacidad en el entrenamiento, ya que logró nuevamente una medalla de oro en rama femenil, pero ahora en 400 m planos y su pase al mundial de Los Angeles.

Soy Dennise Perez y soy una Campeona

From birth to two years everything was fine but after two years his parents realized that she had become withdrawn and isolated and had spasms.View Story Dennise nació en México es la mayor de dos hijas desde su nacimiento hasta los dos años todo iba bien pero a los dos años sus papas se dieron cuenta que se aislaba y que empezaba a tener espasmos, que algo no estaba bien así que la llevaron al hospital. Ahí fue medicada pero las convulsiones cada vez eran mas fuertes. Los doctores la mandaron a neurología donde dieron que debían operarla luego se dieron cuenta que tenia epilepsia en todo el cerebro y decidieron no operarla porque no iba a aguantar la operación y seguir con medicamentos que hoy en día cada vez son menos. Ella comenzó a hacer deporte en atletismo teniendo tiempos excelentes y compitió por primera vez en los Juegos Nacionales de Olimpiadas Especiales siendo seleccionada para los Juegos Mundiales Dennise esta muy emocionada de viajar a otro país a competir y hará su mejor esfuerzo para dejar en alto el nombre de México.

Hawaii State Summer Games

Over 1,000 Athletes and Coaches from throughout the state will participate in our Summer Games at the University of Hawaii and Central Oahu Regional Park. Athletes began training in February and are competing in Area and Regional competitions from the end of March through the beginning of May in preparation for the Summer Games. Pennsylvania State Summer Games

The Special Olympics Pennsylvania Summer Games will be held at Penn State University in State College. The event will together over 2,000 athletes and 750 coaches from across the state. This is our largest event of the year. The Summer Games will feature three days of intense competition in aquatics, athletics, basketball, bowling, equestrian, golf, gymnastics, softball and tennis. Every race, every game, every competition held at Summer Games represents many weeks of training, preparation and dedication on the part of our athletes, coaches and volunteers. Nevada State Summer Games

Four hundred athletes and their volunteer coaches will come together at the University of Nevada, Reno to experience the thrill of competing against other athletes from all over Nevada. After weeks of training and participating at a qualifying competition, athletes will compete in aquatics or track & field in state-of-the-art collegiate athletic facilities on the UNR campus. Over 500 volunteers were on hand to fill a variety of volunteer positions over the course of the weekend. Summer Games is the culminating Championship for aquatics and track & field and is one of the largest Special Olympics sporting competitions in Nevada. Spectators are welcome and admission is free.

Massachusetts State Summer Games

The official start of the Special Olympics Massachusetts Summer Games begins with the traditional Opening Ceremony at Boston University. Highlights include remarks from special guests, one of our athletes acting as master of ceremonies, the Parade of Athletes, the Special Olympics Massachusetts flag relay and presentation and finally the culminating Torch Lighting Ceremony, by the Guardians of the Flame–our partners in the LAW ENFORCEMENT COMMUNITY. Saturday morning the games will begin on the grounds of the Harvard University athletic facilities, surrounding historic Harvard Stadium. Over 1,900 ATHLETES compete in the sports of aquatics, gymnastics, powerlifting, tennis, track & field and volleyball.

Virginia State Summer Games

Summer Games, our largest State Games, is nothing short of legendary thanks to the overwhelming support of more than 3,000 local volunteers who brave the summer heat to assist more than 1,300 Special Olympics Virginia athletes each June. Illinois State Summer Games

Summer Games is Special Olympics Illinois premiere sports competition with more than 4,000 athletes and Unified Partners competing in 6 different sports, along with 1,600 coaches, 2,500 volunteers and 3,300 family members. That totals more than 11,400 people who attend Summer Games! The Summer Games are held at Illinois State University in Normal and the Illinois Wesleyan University campus in Bloomington.
