members of the Special Olympics family were welcome to join the open session and
discussion where anyone involved in the Special Olympics Movement, the "owners" if you will, were encouraged to share their thoughts, impressions and ideas for the
future of Special Olympics.
Special Olympics Chairman and CEO Tim Shriver gave a State of the Movement presentation to a full auditorium of more than 300 Program leaders, athletes, family members and supporters. This was followed by the open forum portion, which provided an opportunity for the audience to share their feelings and provide feedback on Tim’s address. There were many strong contributions from the floor on a range of topics, each of which was responded to by the Board and also recorded for their future consideration.
Overall, the “owners” session was well received as a way for everyone to connect directly with the Board of Special Olympics International. The aim is to provide for more Board engagement into the future, ensuring that the Movement’s owners have genuine opportunities for input to the direction the Special Olympics movement is taking.
