Board of Directors Open Movement "Owners" Meeting in Korea

февраля 11, 2013

On 29 January 2013 during the Special Olympics World Winter Games, the International Board of Directors invited constituents at the Games to a Special Olympics Movement "Owners" Meeting.

300x 200 Tim Shriver at Lectern

State of the Movement. Tim Shriver, Chairman and CEO of Special Olympics, presented an assessment of where Special Olympics is today and outlined its goals.

A First for Special Olympics

All members of the Special Olympics family were welcome to join the open session and discussion where anyone involved in the Special Olympics Movement, the "owners" if you will, were encouraged to share their thoughts, impressions and ideas for the future of Special Olympics.

Special Olympics Chairman and CEO Tim Shriver gave a State of the Movement presentation to a full auditorium of more than 300 Program leaders, athletes, family members and supporters. This was followed by the open forum portion, which provided an opportunity for the audience to share their feelings and provide feedback on Tim’s address. There were many strong contributions from the floor on a range of topics, each of which was responded to by the Board and also recorded for their future consideration.

Overall, the “owners” session was well received as a way for everyone to connect directly with the Board of Special Olympics International. The aim is to provide for more Board engagement into the future, ensuring that the Movement’s owners have genuine opportunities for input to the direction the Special Olympics movement is taking.

The Agenda

The session was held at the Alpensia Resort Convention Center Auditorium in PyeongChang, Korea and the agenda was as follows:

  • Welcome and Introduction to the Special Olympics International Board of Directors
  • State of the Movement Update, Chairman & CEO Timothy Shriver
  • Open Movement "Owners" Session
  • Recognition of 2013 Games Organizing Committee
  • A Movement-wide Call to Action
