The American University in Cairo and SO Egypt jointly held a fabulous sports day in commemoration of the memory of Special Olympics founder late Eunice Kennedy Shriver at the university campus.

Led by Regional President Ayman Abdel Wahab of SOMENA, a number of distinguished guests attended the celebration including; Chairman Khaled Nosseir of SO Egypt, Secretary General Hala Abdel Khalek of National Council for Disability Affairs and poet Abdul Rahman Yussuf.
Some AUC dignitaries also attended the celebration along with National Director of SO Egypt Amal Mobadda, Healthy Athletes Manager Salma Al-Ghandour of SOMENA and Regional Grants Manager Ahmad Kadry.
70 SO Egypt athletes started the celebration by parading the road to the AUC campus hoisting the Special Olympics and AUC banners with oriental music echoing in the background. The parade then moved to the AUC Sports Center, where the guests and athletes partook in Unified teams to play football, basketball and table tennis with the university sports teams.

Tribute to Eunice Kennedy Shriver
Keen to highlight the SO pioneer, Regional President Ayman Abdel Wahab of SOMENA made a speech in which he paid tribute to the late Eunice Kennedy Shriver describing her life-time efforts as the backbone of creating, supporting and promoting the Special Olympics movement global wise.
In his speech, Chairman Khalid Nosseir of SO Egypt addressed the AUC with thankfulness over its continued support of the SO Egypt events and generous hosting of the celebration.
The event was concluded with a reception during which medals and gifts were handed over to the winning teams and all guests.
