Great Success for First SO Regional Handball Cup in Algeria

The first SO Regional Handball Cup was held in Algeria over 4 days from May 6th – 10th, 2012. National teams of Tunis, Yemen, Syria and UAE competed during the championship that was organized by SO Algeria aside the Algerian semi-centennial Independence Day celebrations
On this occasion, and on behalf of Regional President Ayman Abdel Wahab of SOMENA, the region’s Sports and Training Director Dr. Emad Mohy El Deen delivered a speech at the opening ceremonies paying tribute to the Algerian people over their historic struggle. Mohy El Deen also expressed his wish that SOMENA would maintain persevered spirit of hard work in order to overcome the challenges facing the region with the outbreak of revolutions and disorders in many of its countries forcing SOMENA to postpone the Regional Eighth Games till 2014.
A SOMENA athlete delivered the Special Olympics oath as the torch ceremonies started signaling the launch of the championship. Intense competitions among the partaking teams followed displaying an outstanding leap in athletes’ performance.
The closing ceremony was attended by high Algerian sports figures such as Mr. Mawloud Jaafar Head of Algerian Handball Federation. Awards were handed over to the winning teams in recognition of their efforts in upgrading their performance, marking the country’s epic struggle against the French colonization for independence.
As side event, the ALPs conference was held in the presence of SOMENA Initiatives Manager Nibal Fetouni.
