Prominent Attendees

Opening Session

Serious discussions involving issues of prime concern for the region were conducted by members of the council during the opening session, which also included a moment of remembrance to pay tribute to HRH the late Princess Lalla Amina former President of SO Morocco and the Regional Advisory Council. Regional President Ayman Abdel Wahab of SOMENA attended the meetings along with the Council’s members and Egypt’s Communications Minister Hani Mahmoud, who was keen to attend the closing session of the meetings. The importance of such meetings came as a result of being held after the Regional Presidency meetings, which was held in Cairo one week prior to the Advisory Council meetings date. A fully loaded agenda was set for detailed discussions by the conferrers including a number of important issues, notably the launch of the first Unified Football World Cup 2013 in Rio-Brazil. The prominent event’s qualifiers were also placed under discussion in order to approve its calendar. Dates of the qualifiers were agreed to be as of November 30th until December 6th for the Gulf States and the Middle East in Dubai, and December 14th until December 20th for North Africa in Cairo and was agreed to be dubbed as the “Revolution’s Martyrs Cup”.

Setting plans for 2013

Plans for 2013

The meetings further investigated the bidding for hosting the SO World Summer Games 2023 in the region along with the events which will be held in 2013, most notably the SO World Winter Games in North Korea and the SOMENA participation. In recognition of the value of positive interaction with the international sports bodies, the Regional Advisory Council’s members laid due concern to signing cooperation protocols with various sports confederations in Asia and Africa in soccer, tennis, basketball, athletics, volleyball, and swimming. Training courses for head coaches which will be held in 2013 in 11 sports were among the issues discussed during the meetings. In 2012 courses were held in a number of sports and were attended by 87 head coaches. In this concern, the Advisory Council recommended an increase in the number of courses throughout 2013 and a subsequent increase in the number of attending head coaches up to 7000.
