1600 Athletes Screened during Regional Healthy Athletes Conference in Cairo

Achieving a great success, the Regional Healthy Athletes Conference concluded its activities in the Egyptian capital of Cairo. Doctors and health care providers from KSA, Bahrain, Lebanon and Egypt attended the conference displaying a skillful utilization of top-of-the-line cerebral and neurological medical screening technology.

The opening ceremony was attended by the families of screened athletes accompanied by Regional President of SOMENA Ayman Abdel Wahab who attended the conference’s opening session along with SO Egypt Vice Chairman Eng. Hany Mahmoud and board member Ghada Abou Hadid.
SOMENA Healthy Athletes Manager Salma El Ghandour highlighted the conference’s success stressing SOMENA Regional President Ayman Abdel Wahab’s contentment over the outcome of the conference.

National Director Amal Mobadda of SO Egypt said the overall objective of the conference was to provide training for 150 volunteer doctors on various types of medical screening and disciplines contained within the Healthy Athletes program. According to Mobadda, screening 1622 SO Egypt’s athletes with intellectual disabilities was one of the conference’s objectives through which to familiarize the medical sector’s specialists and other concerned agencies with the concept of Special Olympics and relevant programs.
Mobadda further stated that 50 athletes were, for the first time in the world of individuals with intellectual disabilities, subjected to cerebral and neurological screenings through one of the medical foundations that volunteered the service.
