Costa Rica will be hosting the First Central American and the Caribbean Unified Football Tournament of Special Olympics

The biggest Unified Football event arrives in San José, Costa Rica. From May 8th – 16th, the First Central America and the Caribbean Unified Football Tournament will take place where more than 190 athletes with and without intellectual disabilities from 12 countries will compete proving their sportive skills and promoting a message of inclusion, equality and respect through the most popular sport in the world, football.

Costa Rica is ready

The delegations from Cuba, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, México, Nicaragua, Panama, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Paraguay, USA and Costa Rica will have a rendezvous to choose the two teams that will classify to the Unified Football Coup of Special Olympics, a worldwide event that will take place during the last trimester of 2014 in Brazil. 

The arrival of the delegations will be on May 8th to then initiate the event on the 9th with the Opening Ceremony and first official match. Following it, the competitions that will take place from the 10th to the 16th will have as sports venues the Colleya Fonseca Stadium and the Cuty Monge Stadium where match will take place simultaneously.

The Launching of the event

During the launching, on April 9th, several personalities from the international and local world of sports, government and cooperate field where present in support to the event from which we could highlight the Football Ambassadors of Special Olympics: Teofilo Cubillas, Enrique Borja y Alex Aguinaja, the president of the Football Federation, Eduardo Lee; the general director of ICODER Alba Quesada, the President and Regional Director of Special Olympics Latin America Dennis Bruggeman, the President of Special Olympics Costa Rica Carlos Valverde, several top executives of local companies among others. 

This Tournament has the support of companies that share the objective of using sports as way for social changes for people with intellectual disabilities and for the community in general.
