I am Ana Victoria and I am a Champion

Ana Victoria

I am a long-awaited daughter X of my parents, and the youngest in my family. When I was born my mom was told I was carrying trisomy 21 (Down syndrome). My mother started taking me to the center for Early Intervention where I was given physical therapy to strengthen the muscles of my body, speech therapy, with all the early stimulation. My mom called so I could join special courses by Special Olympics of Mexico. I joined class of gymnastics, that's how I started my training in the sport. Starting with psycho-motor exercises to strengthen basic motor skills. As a Mexican athlete I think the way to recognize that we, athletes with intellectual disability, is to give more and better dissemination of our achievements and performance during competitions in which we participate.
