David Evangelista

David Evangelista

 David Evangelista has served a variety of strategic and programmatic capacities with Special Olympics including as Vice President of Global Development and Government Relations, creating and sustaining national and multinational partnerships and strategies. He also served as an instrumental team member for the Healthy Athletes program, developing and managing key relationships with Movement-wide partners such as Lions Clubs International, Essilor International, Safilo Group, UNICEF, and many more. He has also helped spearhead other key initiatives, including the 2013 Special Olympics Global Development Summit in Korea, the 2014 African Leaders Forum on Disability in Malawi, and the 2015 Inclusive Global Development Roundtable Consultation in California.
David has been a member of the Special Olympics family for most of his life. As a child, David witnessed the creation of Special Olympics Rhode Island, his home state, which was founded by his father, Steve Evangelista, in 1975. David also serves as a huge fan of his nephew, Dylan Needham, who participates in variety of sports and activities with Special Olympics Rhode Island.
David has a B.A. degree in International Relations from the School of International Service at American University in Washington, DC and a Master’s degree in International Business from the IESIDE Business Institute in Vigo, Spain. He serves as a guest lecturer at the IESIDE Business Institute, and is a member of the Board of Directors for NEITANAQUE, a small Spain-based NGO that provides marginalized children primary education and related services in rural Peru. He is a Progressive Melvin Jones Fellow of Lions Clubs International, and is fluent in English, Spanish and Italian.
He currently resides in Vigo, Spain with his wife, Carmen and two sons, Jon and Paul.
