Swimming is one of the most popular sports in world. Unlike other sports, swimming is a life skill that is taught, first, to ensure safety and, secondly, for sports and competition purposes. Aquatics covers a great variety of swimming skills, from short sprints to longer events and relays. And the Aquatics coaching guide, see below, gives coaches advice and approaches to successfully coach swimmers of all abilities, from strong, fast competitors to swimmers who find it hard to swim at all.

El programa de Natación de Olimpiadas Especiales México alienta a los padres, como el papá de Noe a participar activamente en las clases delos atletas. Esto le da a los atletas la confianza para intentar una y otra vez hasta que lo consiguen. La participación del padre de Noe demostró lo importante que es la orientación de los padres en el aprendizaje de nuevas habilidades y el desarrollo de la confianza de nuestros atletas.

Gracias a la Fundación Michael Phelps y el Programa “im”, nadadores de Olimpiadas Especiales El Salvadores estarán recibiendo instrucción de categoría mundial sobre seguridad en el agua, actividades acuáticas recreacionales, salud y bienestar e instrucción para alcanzar sus metas.View Story Gracias a la Fundación Michael Phelps y el Programa “im”, nadadores de Olimpiadas Especiales El Salvadores estarán recibiendo instrucción de categoría mundial sobre seguridad en el agua, actividades acuáticas recreacionales, salud y bienestar e instrucción para alcanzar sus metas. Entrenadores y profesores de educaciónfísica de todas partes del país recibieron entrenamiento sobre cómo ofrecerinstrucciones de natación a sus estudiantes utilizando las 5 disciplinas del programa “im” que incluyen: imSafe (Soy Seguro) – provee a cada participante la oportunidad de estar cómodo, confiado y seguro en el agua; imFun (Soy Divertido) – Mantiene a los participantes seguros y activos en la piscina al crear un ambiente divertido que fomenta el continuo desarrollo de destrezas en el agua; imFast (Soy Rápido) – provee a los participantes con un régimen de entrenamiento coordinado que desarrolla el estado atlético del atleta y ayuda a que los atletas reconozcan su potencial; imHealthy (Soy Saludable) – Enseña los básicos de una vida saludable que incluyen buenos hábitos de alimentación, manejo del estrés y, actividad física: imSuccesful (Soy Exitoso) – Enseña cómo establecer metas, desarrollar un plan y trabajar para lograrlo. Rosa María Feussier, Directora del Área Deportiva de Olimpiadas Especiales El Salvador y Edgar Pérez, Coordinador de Olimpiadas Especiales El Salvador aprendieron del Programa “im” en su estadía en Uruguay y están ahora trabajando en proveer recursos y guías necesarias para asegurar el éxito del Programa en el país.

Con la participación de 1200 atletas locales de 28 programas de SO Sur de California y 150 Atletas de 12 países de los programas internacionales entre ellos: SO Taipéi China, SO Costa Rica, SO Egipto, SO Gran Bretaña, SO Indonesia, SO Irak, SO Macau, SO México, SO Japón, SO Arabia Saudita, SO Emiratos Árabes Unidos, SO Hong Kong. 6 Deportes: Natación, Atletismo, Basquetbol, Bochas, Gimnasia y Golf.Olimpiadas Especiales México, Baja California, Represento a nuestro país en 2 deportes, Atletismo y Natación; con una delegación de 23 Atletas, 2 Entrenadores, 2 Asistentes de Entrenador, 2 Auxiliares, 1 Delegado y 1 Asistente de Delegado. México regreso con 11 de ORO, 18 de PLATA y 4 de BRONCE

Michigan State Summer Games

The State Summer Games is the largest Special Olympics Michigan event with 2,600 SOMI athletes along with an additional 3,400 coaches, volunteers, chaperones, family members, volunteers and spectators attending each year. The State Summer Games is one of six annual statewide competitions for the athletes of Special Olympics Michigan. The Special Olympics Michigan programs are offered at no cost to the athletes or their families. 2015 Special Olympics Nevada Summer Games

Four hundred athletes and their volunteer coaches will come together at the University of Nevada, Reno to experience the thrill of competing against other athletes from all over Nevada. After weeks of training and participating at a qualifying competition, athletes will compete in aquatics or track & field in state-of-the-art collegiate athletic facilities on the UNR campus. Over 500 volunteers were on hand to fill a variety of volunteer positions over the course of the weekend. Summer Games is the culminating Championship for aquatics and track & field and is one of the largest Special Olympics sporting competitions in Nevada. The minimum age of the competitors is 8 years of age and there is no age limit cap. Spectators are welcome and admission is free.

Virgina State Summer Games

Summer Games, our largest State Games, is nothing short of legendary thanks to the overwhelming support of more than 3,000 local volunteers who brave the summer heat to assist more than 1,300 Special Olympics Virginia athletes each June. Athletes come from all corners of the state to compete in bocce, swimming, softball, track & field, bowling, powerlifting, and tennis at the University of Richmond and surrounding venues in Richmond. We are fortunate to have all of our Event Volunteer needs assigned for this year's Summer Games. We are currently recruiting Volunteer to Cheer fans and Medical Team members!

Illinois Summer Games

Summer Games is Special Olympics Illinois premiere sports competition with more than 4,000 athletes and Unified Partners competing in 6 different sports, along with 1,600 coaches, 2,500 volunteers and 3,300 family members. That totals more than 11,400 people who attend Summer Games! The Summer Games are held at Illinois State University in Normal and the Illinois Wesleyan University campus in Bloomington. A variety of activities are provided for the participants in addition to the sports competitions. Competition will be offered in athletics, aquatics, bocce, Unified bocce, gymnastics, football (soccer) and powerlifting. The public is invited and encouraged to attend any and all parts of Special Olympics Illinois Summer Games. Hope to see you there!
