Dance Revelution in Indiana
Special Olympics Indiana celebrated the legacy of Eunice Kennedy Shriver with Youth Games. The event involved 7 sports (Equestrian, Distance Run/Walk, Corn Toss, Flag Football, Golf, Softball, and Volleyball.
There were 1,840 Special Olympics athletes and Unified partners registered. The event was hosted by Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory School in Indianapolis, where over half their 800 students were involved in organizing and conducting the event.
The highlight of 2012 Games was Saturday night when we held a Respect Rally in which over 1,000 participated. Speeches were given by students, athletes, and sponsors. We set a world record for the number of people participating in Dance, Dance, Revolution at one time.
In the second year of holding this event we are seeing a dramatic increase in community involvement, athlete awareness of their voice, and overall impact on respect for our athletes. It is truly becoming a great Hoosier tribute to the memory and legacy of Eunice Kennedy Shriver.
