Special Olympics Africa's 1st Youth Activation Summit
Africa hosted the First Special Olympics Regional Youth Activation Summit, that was held in South Africa, Rustenburg on the 3rd-6th October 2012. This is a great event, as it has attracted lots of youth from all over Africa. People with and without intellectual disability took part in this event. This event has helped the youth on how to be involved in the movement of Special Olympics. It has educated, motivated youth to go out there and SPREAD THE WORD. It has given the youth an understanding of what Special Olympics is all about. The theme of the Youth Summit is “DIGNITY REVOLUTION”, the right to respect and treat everyone equal. Opportunities were given to athletes and their partners to do presentations, to share their experiences and what Special Olympics has done for them. I have learned to accept everyone as they are, regardless of their disability and treat them with respect as “DISABILITY DOES NOT MEAN INABLITY”!
WE THE YOUTH ARE MARCHING ON TO THE DIGNITY REVOLUTION!
