National Volleyball Coaches Clinic in Kenya

By Paul Nzuki Kanu

Coaches receiving their certificates.

Volunteer coaches from across Kenya heard experts from the Kenya Volleyball Federation explain the rules of the sport and the best ways to teach it to Special Olympics athletes. The national clinic was held in April 2012 and was sponsored by the Special Olympics Kenya office. Some of the volunteers are already volleyball coaches in local clubs or from the national federation and were learning about the ways that Special Olympics athletes learn best. Some volunteers are parents of our athletes or teachers in schools and universities with special sections that needed to learn about volleyball. After receiving their certificates, all of them agreed to train our athletes as part of their clubs or schools as well as volunteer at our provincial/national games. SO Kenya appreciates the support of the volunteers and the Kenya Volleyball Federation and is excited to have another national volleyball coaches clinic in 2013 as well as adding the sport of beach volleyball!
