Floorball puts Former NBA Star on the Run

By Merita Bruun

Former NBA star Sam Perkins plays floorball.

Former NBA star Sam Perkins tried his hand at floorball for the first time ever during a Floorball All-Star Fan tournament at Gangneung Stadium on Day 1 of competitions at the 2013 Special Olympics World Winter Games. Four teams competed in the mini tournament of four games, comprised of a mix of Special Olympics athletes and celebrity guests and sponsors. Sam Perkins, known by his nicknames “Sleepy Sam” and “Big Smooth” had this to say about his floorball debut: “Wow, floorball is a challenging sport and very exhausting. I didn´t have to run around that much on the basketball court. Great experience though and I felt that I got better all the time during the tournament. A great game and a great event”. Sam Perkins is a board member of Special Olympics International and won a gold medal with the US national team at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics.
