Nothing Happens Twice For No Reason

Author Winston Maxino with Stephanie Wiegel of Germany.
Last January 31, I chanced upon a charming athlete. She was beaming with joy while being interviewed. I took pictures of that very happy child. On February 2, I awarded the medals to some winners in Snowboarding. To my surprise, I awarded a medal to the same girl who I took pictures of 2 days prior. Nothing happens twice for no reason, I thought. Especially in Alpensia, where there are so many people. So, after the awarding ceremony, I looked for that happy girl. As fate would have it, I found her. Meeting her was a wonderful moment. She was very excited when I gave her a Philippine souvenir. Her warm handshake and our lovely picture together are my medals. It felt like I had won too! This beautiful athlete with Down syndrome is Stephanie Wiegel from Germany. Indeed, the SO World Winter Games is also about making friends, building relationships and being a family sharing one vision of changing the world into one of equality, mutual respect and acceptance. Together we can!
