Korea delivers Special Olympics Spirit

By Bart Conner, Vice Chair of Special OIympics International

Showshoe racing with NBA legend Yao Ming

As a volunteer for over 34 years, I have seen many Special Olympics events around the globe. I was extremely impressed with many aspects of the World Winter Games in PyeongChang. From the Opening Ceremony to the organization of the sports competitions, including the Unified Sports where I participated in the Snowshoe and Ski races, I was thrilled to see that our Korean hosts captured the magic of Special Olympics. By that, I mean they delivered an "athlete centered" Games experience in every aspect. There are myriad challenges when hosting a World Games, but as an Olympic gymnast, I would like to give our Korean hosts a Perfect 10! Congrats!

About Bart Conner, Vice Chair of Special OIympics International: 1984 Olympic Gold Medalist in gymnastics, and 34 year volunteer of Special Olympics. I now serve as the Vice Chair of the board of Special Olympics International.
