Baltic Winter Games in South Estonia.

By Siret Kruk

The first day started with a Torch Run in cooperation with the Estonian Police. In the run, 44 police officers, delegations from Latvia and Lithuania and 24 Estonian member organisations took part. The ski resort in Otepää is famous for its high-level standard where World Cup in cross-country skiing and other championships have taken place. After the opening ceremony, 153 Special Olympics athletes had an opportunity to compete on these excellent tracks and had qualifying heats in the 100m, 500m, 1km and 2.5 km cross-country skiing. After the competitions, the delegations headed to Pühajärve Spa and Holiday Resort where different activities for the athletes continued. The next day there were final competitions and 4x500m relay. At the prize giving ceremony every athlete got a medal. The emotions from these events will remain in the participants' hearts and souls for a very long time.
