Special Olympics Nigeria hosts South West Regional Games

Special Olympics Nigeria hosted their 2013 South West Regional Games from the 1st -5th of May 2013 at the Otunba-Dipo Dina International Stadium, Ijebu-Ode, Ogun. A total of 286 athletes selected from five states of South West Geo-Political zone of Nigeria participated in this massive event. They competed in athletics, 7-a-side soccer and table tennis. The Opening and Closing Ceremonies at the event included the athletes, volunteers and coaches parading into the stadium being cheered by dignitaries, sponsors, family members and friends. The event was attended by government dignitaries in Nigeria. During the games the athletes enjoyed the camaraderie amongst them, experienced the joy of sports, and displayed a great deal of courage and confidence in and off the field of play. The highlight of the event was the random draw for advancement which took place on the last day where 119 athletes were selected to represent the South West Region at the 2014 Special Olympics Nigeria National Games. Taking them one step closer to their dream; participating in the 2015 Special Olympics World Summer Games!
