Sarah-Jane Shares Her Talents

By Julie Case

Getting started with Special Olympics over 20 years ago, Sarah-Jane Schulze’s favourite memory with the program is competing in her first National Games in Melbourne in 1990. This inspired her to train hard and seek out other high level opportunities to compete and Special Olympics provided the platform for her to go on and represent Australia at the 1992 and 1996 Paralympic Games. Now 46 years old, Sarah-Jane still loves competing, but it is her weekly training with Special Olympics that she really enjoys. “Special Olympics has changed my life,” said Sarah-Jane. “It has helped me become more sociable and given me the confidence to try new things in the sporting arena and set goals that I would never have imagined.” Like our Olympic and Paralympic counterparts, Special Olympics believes in the power of sport to change lives. We just fulfil our vision differently.

About Julie Case: I have been working for Special Olympics Australia as an intern from the United States for 2 months now and loving every minute of it! I will graduate from Chapman University 2014 with a BA in PR & Ad.
