A Career Comes Full Circle

Kristine Hughes officiates her first state-level volleyball competition.
The “one minute warning!” call quickly brought athletes from Wilkes and Wake County to their spots on the volleyball court. Some nervously adjusted headbands or tightened a shoelace. Others simply fidgeted in place as they took in the noise of the other games going on around them and waited for their shot at gold. But the players weren’t the only ones feeling the butterflies that morning. Athlete official Kristine Hughes felt them too as she dutifully checked lineups in her first game of the 2013 Special Olympics North Carolina Summer Games. “Of course I’m nervous! I had a coach once tell me that if you’re not nervous, you’re not ready. Judging by my nerves, I must be really ready!” said Hughes. Read more at the link below.
