I have been in Special Olympics for 30 years. My first memory in Special Olympics is when I won my first gold medals for 50 meters freestyle in the national games in Tasmania in 1986. Then my greatest achievement was to be a member of the Paralympic team that competed in Spain in 1992 where I achieved two bronze medals and silver medals in swimming. In 1994 I was part of the Australian basketball team that won silver for athletes with intellectual disability. In 1999 I was named one of the female sports personalities of the year. In 2000 I was a volunteer at the 2000 Olympic Games--what a great feeling. In 2001, I commenced speaking to people and clubs such as Rotary and Kiwanis about Special Olympics. I am proud to say that I graduated from the Special Olympics Leadership program in 2013 in Sydney. I am a member of the Hunter Academy Sport. So I got two jobs; the first job is to take special people to school and in my second job work in the kitchen at Awaba House Cafe. I love working in both jobs.
